Helen Benn is a lifelong learner with a passion for always learning something new. Helen is a Certified Professional Life Coach, Mediator, Restorative Justice Practitioner, Family Group Conference Coordinator, and Mental Health First Aider. She is a member in good standing of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario and Canada; A member of the Canadian Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (CATAP); A member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE) and the Ontario Association for Child and Youth Care (CYW).
Helen immigrated to Canada in 1989 where she began working for Community Living Oakville Pre-School Services as a Resource Teacher Consultant. After having her own children and taking five years as a stay at home mum, Helen created a Picture Communication Business to assist children with nonverbal communication. Helen returned to the school system with the Halton District School Board and then moved on to the Peel District School Board where she spent the rest of her School Board career, supporting students on the Autism Spectrum and children with Behavioural and Social/Emotional challenges. Helen has worked with all age groups from preschool, to elementary school, to middle school, to high school, and adult/alternative education programs. Within her role at PDSB, she was also able to utilize her training as a 'Roots of Empathy' Instructor, 'Lions Quest–Skills for Adolescence', 'ASIST' (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and Mental Health First Aid training, and was also a member of the PDSB Critical Incident Response Team.
In 2007 Helen began her studies in Mediation and Arbitration at York University in Toronto. Helen also began her studies as a Certified Professional Life Coach with the Coaches Training Institute.
Helen was a founding board member of Community Conflict Resolution Services of Halton and for 10 years she volunteered as a mediator for that non-profit organisation. As a Life Coach and Mediator, Helen realised that Conflict Resolution and Restorative Justice Practises were key elements of peace and harmony for the individuals involved. But, when unresolved conflict, (and the energy that is built up within the cells of our body from that conflict or trauma), has no place to go, then dis-ease or illnesses/conditions develop in the body . Helen was curious as to how the body became dis-eased with all this stagnant energy, which led Helen into her journey of studying BioEnergy Healing and Wellness.
Helen is certified as a ‘Pulse Electromagnetic Field Expert’, (PEMF) with Swiss Bionic Solutions, and she also offers PEMF systems & sessions, at her office.
Helen is a volunteer board member with the Barry’s Bay Recreation Committee and the Madawaska Valley District High School Parent Council. Helen has been a workshop facilitator at the Humber College Lakeshore campus, the Peel District School Board and many other groups and organisations over the years.
Helen is also an instructor for Adult Literacy, Basic Skills and Computer Skills, for the Training and Learning Centre of Renfrew County, here in our Barry's Bay location.
